The success of the rather good 'Dawn of the Dead' remake, must have had some influence on this, yet another horror remade from the trilogy of the dead set of horror films by director George A. Romero.
This version of the film only really takes ideas from the original source, for example the soldier element, scientist a use of an underground bunker, and the recantation of 'Bud' the caring zombie. This remake only touches on the original material and decides to run a standard zombie flick and looks and feels more like a resident evil fllm.
This remake even has a false start as such, with the film opening more like a Friday 13th or Halloween remake, with a group of teenagers making out in some disused bunker, you kind of expect Jason to appear and hack them all to pieces, very odd.
The film is not as bad as you would expect, but the now legendary George A. Romero original sub subject matter, examples of at class division etc are gone, leaving a rather all too familiar zombie picture, which will get even more slack because of its originals status.
